Providing Early Childhood Special Education Services in Community-Based Settings: Learnings from Six Communities Across the Country

This March 2024 publication highlights the benefits of early childhood inclusion for both children with disabilities and children without disabilities. It provides evidence for how children with disabilities in inclusive settings make greater gains in communication, cognitive development, and social-emotional skills, and have larger friend networks than children in separate settings. It also documents how inclusive settings promote positive developmental and social outcomes for children without disabilities, as well as greater empathy and a positive perception of children with disabilities. Access to this publication will provide information about how school districts around the country are supporting inclusion in all early learning programs.
