Indicators of High-Quality Inclusion

Children with disabilities receive care in a variety of settings including schools, childcare centers, Head Start programs, and family childcare environments. Yet, families encounter difficulties in securing care for their children with disabilities. These Early Care and Education Indicators were designed by a group of national partners to respond to the evolving needs of early childhood education systems. The Inclusion Indicators can help classroom teams to assess, target, and implement inclusive practices. They can also help teams discuss barriers to inclusion and develop effective solutions. This set of indicators has led to the development of companion resources (e.g., indicator observation tool, planning tool, resource collection) and successful implementation at the school district level.
