This study examined the impact of teacher effects on student achievement in Los Angeles Unified School District. Pre-experimental teacher effect estimates were significantly related to student test scores, with the most accurate prediction occurring when mean classroom characteristics were controlled for. Teacher effects were found to fade out by approximately 50% per year after teacher assignment.
