National guidance from multiple sources, including Transforming the Workforce and professional organizations, is consistent in the emphasis on the importance of early childhood educators being well prepared to recognize and address the impact of trauma in themselves, young children, and families. Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACEs is one of the most widely used terms when discussing the traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-17 years) such as experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect. This webinar will unpack what’s important to know about ACEs and share examples of how to integrate opportunities for students to learn and practice this content across different course offerings and field experiences. Please join us for a stroll down “making memory lane” where we will unpack the many ways in which children's books can play a significant role in supporting each and every child and family. In this webinar we'll explore the concepts of mirrors, windows, and sliding doors, selection criteria that enable children to both have their lives reflected and to gain insight to the lives of others. We'll reveal a new checklist for examining books for bias, offer high-quality resources that share Black and Asian experiences, and share ways in which children's books can be used to enhance STEM learning for children with and without disabilities. Access to books in multiple formats and languages will also be part of this look at how to build literacy and learning into an early childhood course or across an early childhood program.

Help early educators learn about how to support young children in STEM learning, and bridge the opportunity gap for young children with disabilities to engage in STEM learning. This webinar will share examples of strategies and processes for supporting young children with disabilities in meaningful STEM learning.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an evidence-based set of ideas and practices that can help early childhood and early childhood special educators to more effectively support the individual learning needs of children. While some faculty members include UDL examples for how to support children with disabilities, this webinar will emphasize how these practices can also support children who are dual language learners, children who are new to a setting, and children who have experienced stress or trauma. Content will include an overview of the components of UDL, share examples of how UDL content could be incorporated in courses or presentations on different topics, and provide resources for learning about or incorporating UDL examples.
Recent national attention to inclusion (e.g., DEC Recommended Practices, joint policy from the U.S. Departments of HHS and Education) has underscored the need to grow future professionals who can support the inclusion of each child within home, program, and community settings. This webinar will share examples of how to make this happen in each course by sharing free print, audiovisual, web and instructional resources for faculty members to use. Presenter: Camille Catlett
